Wow! BB you made me tear up with this one, you reminded me of "Freds Foundation" and how a simple , loving person can have such an impact on another human being. I still do alot of what I do the way I was taught as a boy, its funny how that works, for example, Dutchie taught me to always clean the sink and dry it out after i washed my hands or brushed my teeth and to this day I automatically do it with out thinking. But there were other things i was taught that i forget from time to time, each time I would ask Dutchy for something that she didnt have or didn't know, she would always say" lets ask GOD" even for simple things. This is what I forget from time to time because I have become a "fixer" I try to fix everything from a leaky faucet to a broken heart. What I am going through right now I cannot fix, and the more I try the worse it gets. Whats worse I never thought to " ask GOD " because this seemed like an easy one to fix and in the process I have been distracted by many urgent things that aren't really IMPORTANT. Ties in with what we talked about on Friday and again at the Mens Breakfast, Go back to what you know the LORD wanted you to do and start again. In this case I need to get rid of some hay and straw, and get back to depending on my GOD for everything. thank you for this one, indeed you are a wall of bronze, to me anyway

Lois,

Would you believe that little by little I'm still moving towards my books. Of course a 'push' from you could well be part of God's plan. :)

"I could write a book on our ventures in Boyce and could just about guarantee that it would be spell binding."

Actions speak louder than words! Where are these books we keep hearing about? Hmm???

Was this a subtle enough hint? Do I have to appear in person and give you a push? ;) OL!

> Just wanted to say that I love the old pulpit too. It may be old and weathered, but it has character, it is well built, solid and I never even considered getting rid of it in the midst of all the purging we did. I would have been horrified if anyone even suggested it. Just wanted to reassure you! <

Thanks Debbie,

Appreciate what you said about the pulpit having character. I think the word is pretty much out. It is the only thing we have left from our Boyce days. I have often kicked myself for not saving the sign we had at our front door which read, 'School for Christian Workers.'

Oh well - At least we have the pulpit. Thanks again...

Blessings,

Gayle,

In context, 1 Corinthians 3:15 has to do with ministers of the gospel. It is about the material the 'workman' is using to build on the foundation of Jesus Christ. Here is the Scripture in mind:

"If any man's work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire."

The 'he himself will be saved' is an issue of eternal security. This is where 'saved by grace and not of ourselves' enters the picture. However, his work being burned up 'so as through fire' has to do with bad doctrines, with the judgment of our works, and with rewards.

In the new covenant we are given 'works' to do. These works are assigned to us by the Holy Spirit and are to be overseen by the same. This is what Paul is speaking of when he says, "For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus FOR GOOD WORKS, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them." (Eph2:10)

The thing to keep in mind is that in 1Co3:15, Paul is directing his attention to those who are following behind him. Some were teaching 'gold, silver, precious stones' doctrines. Others were teaching things that should never have been taught; wood, hay, straw.

To add just a bit more to this -- The wood, hay, straw doctrines probably related to the teachings of the legalisers, but also to gnostic teachings that were making rounds in the early church. The book of Galatians relates to this.

The real problem is that the church at Corinth was very young in the Lord. Most of the members were immature. And this is where the danger zone is always found. Young believers can be gullible to an extreme.

Remember what Paul wrote to this same church in his second letter: "But I am afraid that, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, your minds will be led astray from the simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ...

...for if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted, you bear this beautifully." (2Co11:3,4)

Didn't mean to write a documentary. This is simply a good area of discussion. And it relates to much of what we see happening today in certain circles, especially with 'some' Charismatic groups.

Blessings,

Dear Bro. Buddy,

Just wanted to say that I love the old pulpit too. It may be old and weathered, but it has character, it is well built, solid and I never even considered getting rid of it in the midst of all the purging we did. I would have been horrified if anyone even suggested it. Just wanted to reassure you! :-)
