Fred,

Thanks for sharing about Dutch. I've heard you talk about her before. What a gracious gift from the Lord. She certainly taught you to be a servant. We at Christian Challenge have inherited your gift of blessings.

You said, "She always had a story to tell about the Bible that related to whatever she had me doing at the time." This shows how faithfully the Lord works in our lives in preparing us for the future.

Thanks again brother,

As you know, i was adopted, and probably had ADD although they didn't call it that back then they just spanked you. I did have something to offset this difficult stage in my life and her name is Dutch, or dutchy as I called her. Dutchy would come an get me on friday after school most weekends and take me to her house, (to give my folks and brothers and sister a rest) and lavish me with attention. My attention span was about 2 seconds in those days but she seemed to understand and kept me extremely busy doing any number of simple task, one of them was cooking. As a child of the depression, Dutchy was farmed out and worked in the kitchen of a big farm with many hands who were in the same situation,(no food or place to stay)and learned plenty about cooking and being a servant. This knowlege she imparted to me very gently and skillfully. Dutchy didn't just show me how to stir a pot, but how to create a recipe, even with baking, how to plan a menu, and what foods make you sleepy and what foods give you energy, and about the secret ingredient, LOVE, and she always had a story to tell about the Bible that related to whatever she had me doing at the time. I didn't really pay much attention to everything that she said cause I was always thinking about what I was about to do next, but its funny how it comes back to you when you get older. Anyway when I was 17, and about to graduate high school, Dutchy told me something that I didn't comprehend till I was 40 years old and she was gone. She said "Fred, you have the perfect temprement to be a great cook, your a natural, come to Dallas and be a cook." I told her that cooks are a dime a dozen, and there was no prestige in being a plain ol cook and that I was going where the money was. Kids, one small descision that robbed me of 20 years. But, praise GOD he got my attention at 40! In 20 years I had just about every kind of job, and struggle and finally in desperation(on my knees) I told my God that I couldn't do it and that I would do whatever he desired, and the rest is elementary. When God opens your eyes and shows you what he has done for you, how can you not love him! I am so very very grateful, and thankful for the new life he gave me, and I am humbled when he opens my eyes to see his hand in my life, just a plain ol cook.

You are more than welcome Daniel,

Thank you for all your kind and gracious words. You have blessed me more than you know.

And may the Lord give your mother and your Papa Ray many more years of showing forth their faith, so that others may see what a true walk with the Lord is all about.

In Christ,

Buddy

In this season, we rarely find time to express to those who have lived a life of faith, how much their example means to us. I just returned from spending Christmas time with my dear 82 year old mother and my Papa Ray who just turned 86! They both have lived by faith through incredible circumstances, challenges and a great many joys. Thank you bro. Buddy for sharing so much with those who love you. The lives you have touched are like jewels set in the crown of rejoicing, each facet cut into brilliance and clarity! What a bountiful gift you share with all of us this Christmas! God bless your ministry. Your crown will continue to collect until it cannot hold anymore and it's beauty will shine before the Lord as you cast it before his feet someday.

Kitty,

Thank you so much for sharing that. This is exactly what I had in mind when I ask for my readers to share some event in their past life, that, at the time, they did not necessarily see the Lord's hand at work, but later did come to see that 'He was there all the time.'

Thank God for all the 'Marys' that the Lord brings across our path.

Anyone else care to share. I really love this area of discussion.

Blessings,

I guess when Mary moved across the street from me as a new Christian. I didn't know how to pray. I didn't know how to live a Christian life. She started a prayer group. Then a Bible Class. Then she got me involved in Child Evangelism. Some of us on that street was struggling to live up to our profession of faith. We just needed a Mary in our lives. The Lord provided her to us.
