Latest on the journey of lymphoma…
Filed in NHL |Journal,
Its time to let folks know the latest on my journey of lymphoma. I’ve recently had a PET scan, a bone marrow test, and blood test to get an update on how things are going. Betty and I met with my doctor this afternoon (Dr. Halawani).
The news was not as good as we would have liked. The PET scan shows a couple of hot spots in my upper abdomen and the bone marrow also shows a problem. Dr. Halawani was totally surprised since I’ve had no symptoms that indicate a problem with NHL.
My health remains strong. He has given us every reason to look to future options and treatments. Dr. Halawani shared with us? the incredible strides being made in the treatment of cancers.
As many of you know, M. D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, is number one when it comes to the cutting edge for dealing with every kind of cancer. Dr. Halawani was to contact M. D. Anderson this afternoon to arrange for me to go there for further evaluation and/or future treatment.
The doctor also noted that stem cell therapy will likely be part of my future treatment, but that there are a number of options available. He said that M. D. Anderson will call me next week to arrange an appointment. (Copies of my records are being sent to them.)
As for Betty and myself, we’ve never doubted the Lord’s watchful oversight of my journey with NHL. (Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.) This is just another bump in the road.
And in whatever the future may hold, I know that it all belongs to the Lord. Did He not say, “I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you.” (Heb. 13:5)
Much love coming your way from the Martin household,
Buddy

Bro. Buddy,
I just found out about your results from Ms. Nellie and then I got online to your web. I am so sorry to hear this kind of news, but just like he said, he would never leave you nor forsake you.
We will be praying for you and your treatments, We will pray for his will to be done in the situation.
Fred and I so much enjoy being in your Sunday night teachings and we just love you and your gentle and loving ways.
I just don’t know what else to say except I truley believe that all things are possible with our God and Fred and I will be daily lifting you up to him and Betty and family as well.
In Christian Love,
Brenda
Hi Brenda,
Thank you for writing and for offering your prayers. Betty and I could ask for no more than that. We know the Lord is faithful in all His ways. He will see me through to His perfect will.
I’ve enjoyed the Sunday evening Bible studies as well. Looks like we will need to play everything by ear for now. I’ll share this Sunday evening. Afterwards it will depend on what Houston has to say.
Our love to you and Fred,
Buddy
My heart is sad. But we will all pray for you and ask the Lord to let us have you for a long time to come. Your messages are so welcome each time I open my mail and see your name. His Will Be Done.
Kitty
Kitty,
I’m truly in the hands of the Lord. Tentatively I am to check in at M. D. Anderson, August 14. My evaluation will take seven to ten days. (Out patient.) Recommended treatment will come out of that.
I appreciate your prayers. The Lord is gracious.
Buddy
Dear Bro. Buddy, I just learned of the latest about your health and I am shocked to hear it. But, I am a firm believer that your work here is far from over and I am believing that when and if you go to MD Anderson that it will all be clear. Doesn’t the Bible say were two or three are gathered in my name so shall it be? Well, it’s more than that here… I truly am thankful for all that you and the Christian Challenge family have done for us. You and Sister Betty will be in my prayers. Love ya’ll, Donna Cheek
Donna,
Thank you for such encouraging words. We’ll be going to MD Anderson on the 14th. (Tentative.) My evaluation will take from seven to ten work days.
I am sustained by the faith that Jesus has given me. From the very beginning I’ve been conscious of His hand at work. He has kept my heart in peace. I also believe that MD Anderson is part of His handiwork.
Your prayers are deeply appreciated.
Love in Christ,
Buddy
We will be praying for you. We know that God is watching over you. We love your Blog. It is such a wonderful inspiration to Julian and I.

Rose and Julian Heater
Thank you Rose and Julian,
It makes me happy to know that you enjoy my blog. And thanks so much for your prayers.
We have a loving and kind Father. He has given me assurances from the very beginning of His love and care for me. And I know that He feels this way for all of His children.
There is no greater blessing to be had than to know Jesus Christ as one’s own Lord and Saviour.
Much love coming your way,
Buddy
