Unlike emotional pain, physical pain is constant - it doesn't go away, and can obviously keep one awake. I've never been ill before in that sense - I thank the Lord for that (and for many things) - but it does seem nowadays there are more people with cancer than ever before. May He come back soon. in the Lord...
