The treasure house of wisdom…

Filed in NHL |

Journal,

When we read certain responses from Job, we are? reading from the great treasure house of God’s wisdom. For example it is Job who brings up the subject of the ‘hidden wisdom of God.’ Listen to this man of God:

“But where can wisdom be found? And where is the place of understanding.” (Job 28:12)

” … the acquisition of wisdom is above that of pearls.” (Verse 28)

“Where then does wisdom come from?…” (Verse 20)

Thus it is hidden from the eyes of all living and concealed from the birds of the sky.” (Verse 21)

Job has more to say about wisdom but it is here where we see the term concerning God’s hidden wisdom.

The ancient Hebrew had a belief that the first light that appears in Genesis 1 was the wisdom of God. This was the wisdom that the human family should walk in. When Adam turned from the Lord, this wisdom was hidden. It would only come again when God’s Messiah came to the earth.

Sound familiar? Jesus said, “I am the Light of the world; he who follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the Light of life.” (John 8:12 nasb.)

In the Bible the terms wisdom and light can often be interchanged. Reaching forward into redemption history, when the Jewish leadership rejected Jesus Christ, they were also rejecting the hidden wisdom of God. Since that time they have wandered about this planet with dread hanging over them.

Now listen to the apostle Paul:

“Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are mature; a wiosdom, however, not of this age nor of the rulers of this age, who are passing way; but we speak God’s wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which God predestined before the ages to our glory.” (1 Corinthians 2:6,7 nasb.)

What else do we know about the hiddenness of Jesus from the Jewish peoples? Jesus said this over Jerusalem — “…from now on you will? not see Me? until you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord.”? (Matthew 23:39)

But the Lord had one more thing to say to Jerusalem — “If you had known in this day, even you, the things that make for? peace!? But now they have? been hidden from your eyes.” (Luke 19:42)?

Actually the? hiddenness of the Messiah was foretold in the writings of the prophet Hosea. the Lord said, “I will go away and return to My place until they acknowledge their guilt and seek My face; in their affliction they will earnestly seek Me.” (Hosea 5:15)

Finally Job gave a? summation on God’s? hidden wisdom –? “And to man He said, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.” (Job 28:28)

See how very interesting the book of Job is.

So, is Jesus the Light of your life?

Ok, that is my devotion for today.

11:40 a.m.? CJ and I made our journey to the hill behind Christian Challenge. A great place for prayer and meditation. Spent time there in prayer while the General laid out in the sun. Nothing like some quiet time with the Lord to? get the heart fully in tune with heaven.

1 p.m. - My love called and let me know not to eat anything til she got home. Catfish is on the way. Wow.? What can I say.? :)

1:05 p.m. - Call from Jerry Lee. My couz was checking up on me. Wonderful conversation. He had Uncle Charley in church with him Sunday. So good to hear. (Uncle Charley is my dad’s youngest brother. Only two of the kids left on this side. He and Aunt Vallie.)

1:20 p.m. - The phone has been busy. My buddie Larry Jeane checked in. Larry is such a great friend.? He use to keep us preachers rolling on the floor with his funny ‘true-to-life’ stories. (Larry is City Marshall in Pineville.? We made him an honorary preacher. If there is such a thing.)

2:30 p.m. - Betty and Jon took a? bench up on the hill behind Christian Challenge. It is the perfect place for? solace of mind and spirit. Look forward to many quiet moments there. CJ and I will be able to look out over our vast domain.

3:00 p.m - Time for closure for the day. Can’t think of anything funny to share. Hmmmmm.

Nope.

Ok, see you later.

Hey bro. buddy; Boy that will preach, wish I had a pulpit I’d preach it. HA! HA! not really I was just inspired by you lesson today. I always learn something from Job. It is always hard for us when we don’t know what God is doing in our life especially if our flesh is hurting, but God in his graceousness always reminds us that we walk by faith. This has happened many times in my life. and I give HIM praise. Love Doris

    Hi Doris,

The ‘Wisdom of God’ is an awesome subject. It is one of those hidden treasures to be found in the book of Job.

Jesus said something quite mysterious about wisdom — “Yet wisdom is vindicated by all her children.” (Luke 7:35)

Thank you for responding and for sharing your faith. You are one of those ‘wisdom children.’ (All true believers are.)

    Blessings,

    Buddy
