“And I heard a voice from heaven, saying, ‘Write…”

Morning Journal,

No, I didn’t hear a voice from heaven telling me to write. The voice here is God? speaking to John. But after a bit I will share? how? God’s people can speak with a heavenly voice.?

Before I pick up with this morning, let me share a short recap on yesterday afternoon.

7 p.m.? Spent awhile working with my music. Then thought to write a certain? individual with? advice on a future faith decision.? Was I ever waxing with words of wisdom. (So I thought.) I had every angle covered.

Something seemed not right. Went to talk with Betty about my wanting to help this friend work out all their problems. (Problems that I had conjured up in my own mind.)

The moment Betty began to share, I recognized God’s wisdom from above. I had been moving into a fleshly area in my ’supposed’ godly counsel. Afterwards the Lord spoke to my heart, and said, “Flesh begets flesh.”

And this brings me to the ‘heavenly voice.’ I’ve often been intrigued with? something the Lord said through the? prophet Isaiah; “Your ears will hear a word behind? you, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ whenever you turn to the right or to the left.” (Isaiah 30:21? nasb)

Just who are these heavenly voices that say to us, “This is the way, walk in it?” The voices can be the voices of any believer. Jesus said there would be times when the Father speaks through us, “For it is not you who speak, but it is the Spirit of your? Father who speaks in you.” (Matthew 10:20 nasb)

In my case I’ve discover over the years that while the Lord can and often does speak to me through other believers, the one who speaks the dearest and the clearest into my life is my wife.

Here is where I need to share about the godly marriage.? Why is it that in? a godly marriage, the wife? may seem to have the clearest voice from heaven? (By the way it works both ways.)?

The reason is because the godly marriage is? secured in? Jesus Christ. You have two believers bound in a spiritual covenant that is only available to true believers.? (Not speaking merely of our personal? walk with the Lord.)

God bore witness against Israel concerning how the men were treating their wives. He said, “The Lord has been a witness between you and the wife of your youth, against whom you have dealt treacherously, though she is your companion and your wife by covenant.” (Malachi 2:14 nasb.)

Did you know that Peter warned Christian men that their prayers would not be answered if they failed to treat their wives as ‘equal’ heirs of the grace of life? (Cf. 1 Peter 3:7)

This is a teaching in itself. If you would like to read more about this area go to:

Let’s pick up with this morning…

7:10 a.m. CJ is snoozing away as usual. What a picture of contentment. Reminds me of something David said; “It is vain for you to rise up early, to retire late, to eat the bread of painful labors; for He gives to His beloved even in his sleep.” (Psalm 127:2 nasb.)

For the sake of ‘writing space’ I’ll? bypass recording my devotional in Ezra this morning. Boy, I am ever enjoying my walk with the Lord through another book.

8:10 a.m. - Caught up on my email. (For now. It is an all day process.)

Checked out Drudge to catch some of the news. Saw a striking picture of our president with tears streaming down his cheeks. What a tender man.

It was during a Medal of Honor ceremony at the white house. The honoree gave his life saving others.

Thought to myself - How blind can America be? We are on our way to the final count-down of Jerusalem. Yet many in this nation seem to be in a blind stupor. What a pitiful people we are that we are unable to discern the signs of the time.

Point at hand — We are on the march down to Jerusalem. It doesn’t matter if it is five years from now. We are quickly approaching the end of history, as we know it.

The next thing on the scope is the book of Revelation. What will the world do when all the godly depart?

As a Christian nation, why do we remain such a fleshly people? Perhaps it is because we know little about sanctifying our hearts to the Lord. Our eyes continually look on evil. Seems we have lost the fire of God in our midst. (Shekinah presence.)

Isaiah speaks to this, “Sinners in Zion are terrified; trembling has seized he godless, ‘Who among us can live with the consuming fire? Who among us can live with continual burning?’

“He who walks righteously and speaks with sincerity, he who rejects unjust gain and shakes his hands so that they hold no bribe; he who stops his ears from hearing about bloodshed, and shuts his eyes from looking upon evil; he will dwell on the heights, his refuge will be the impregnable rock [Jesus Christ]; his bread will be given him, his water will be sure.” (Isaiah 33:14-36 nasb.)

11:45 a.m. Betty is out for her morning walk. Guess I need to stop my journal for now.

Hope my readers have picked up some inspiration. I may put out another study today. Have so much running through my heart.

Can we hear the heavenly voice?

The Lord bless you,

Buddy

I sure have enjoyed reading your blogs and getting to know you better in the other areas of your life. Regarding your word of wisdom to your friend, how do you discern going from Godly counsel to flesh? I have been studying Job lately and plan on teaching a study at church to the women, but after the Lords rebuke to Job’s friends about religious sounding yet error filled advice it makes me tremble to give anyone help. Yet it is such my heart to encourage and lift up. Some of the other posts on Departing UPC bring up some bad memories about my past. Sometimes I think I am disqualified to teach because of UPC/new age background. I am afraid to make a mistake. Thanks for being there though i know your plate is full. Everyone is emailing you because they know they’ve got you cornered for now :). May the Lord multiply your time and Godly counsel. Margot

    Margot,

Glad to know that my on-line journal is a blessing to you.

Your question: “How do you discern going from Godly counsel to flesh.”

First, by way of compliment, I find you to be one of the most level-headed responders on our forum. You have a great grasp on the gospel message. I’ve never seen you write anything that I could disagree with.

That being said, you are already a discerning person. The Lord had helped you make your passage into His world of reality.

There are number of keys to discerning Godly counsel from that of the flesh. One key is to be willing to listen to others. Another key is to look for your witness of the Spirit. (This is where patience becomes our possessor. God has promised us our testimony from the Holy Spirit.)

Of course the final key is to keep your heart attuned to God’s Word and to the witness of the Spirit. What I mean by this, is that we must learn to take God’s promises at face value. Where Jesus says that His sheep know His voice and another they will not follow, this is where our faith must rest.

But also let your faith rest on God’s foundation of eternal life. John said that no believer need ever be subject to a ‘guru.’ Every true beliver has eternal life, and the eternal life always bears witness to Jesus Christ.

The good work that the Lord began in your life, He Himself will finish it.

Don’t tremble over Job. Just look for the valuable lessons to be found there. Also remember to keep each book of the Bible in its own time frame.

Margot, if anyone is qualified to teach a study at your church, you are the one. Your new age background has been an education in itself. You have been through the fire. Just look where the Lord has brought you.

Besides that — I have been an observer of your writings for a few months now. You are right on the money when it comes to the gospel of Jesus. (Also have plenty of wisdom.)

    Blessings,

    Buddy

May I add to this? Margot, because of your new age and UPC background, you will be able to minister better and to others with a similar background because you have been there and made it through! It is not a hindrance, sis, but an asset. There is no better one to relate to than one who has been there.

    Be encouraged!
