Second chemo in the morning…
Filed in NHL | Comments (11)Hi Journal,
Just received a call from Jennifer from Cabrini. Need to do my lab work at 8:30 in the morning. At? 9:00 I meet with my doctor. It’s time for the second chemo treatment. Takes about six hours. Better take some good reading.? On well, no big deal. I have eight of these to manage.? Anyway,? my prognosis looks good.? I’m well satisfied that the Lord has some more work for me to do.
Betty talked with Reza this morning. He is being discharged shortly. They tell him at the hospital than they’ve never seen anyone recover so quickly from open-heart surgery. Reza said it wasn’t him, that he had lots of people praying for him. Betty told Reza that she was glad he recognized that. (Betty spends time making her morning calls. Likes to check in on family.)
There’s much to Reza’s story. He is originally from Iran with a Shiite Muslim upbringing. He married a Christian girl. (Betty’s sister Karen.) Over the years Reza’s heart has softened. I well remember the first time I witnessed to him. Spend a number of? hours talking to him about the things of the Lord. I hope to get to share more with him in the future. Looks like the Lord has His hand on Reza’s life.
Woke up this morning around 4 a.m. Dropped back to sleep and then got up at 5:30. Had a bit of sadness on me. Was thinking about mom. Boy, how I miss my mama.? January 20th, mama would have? been eighty-seven. She went to be with the Lord, March 27, 2005.
My younger life was? built around mama. Same with my sisters. But it seemed that from early on I became mama’s confidant. Guess it was because I was an only son. She would often share her heart with me. And how I miss her stories about her family and the wisdom that she always had.
The sadness passed. At 6:16 CJ and I took our morning walk to get the paper. Came home and settled down for my traditional, read the paper, drink coffee, spend a goodly time in the Word of God. All this is in preparation for a wonderful day with the Lord. Like I always tell you — I feel good all the time. Read good inside. Just have to put up with some physical limitations.
Just have to tell this. We never? let CJ on the furniture at the parsonage. Sometimes he will get in my lap, but he always keeps his hind legs on the floor. (CJ is one? tall dog.? On his hind legs he can look me in the eyes.) Last evening CJ decided to move the envelope a little more. He? goes about to get in my lap,? this time he puts? his rear on our love couch.? Betty thought it was so funny that she got? her camera to take a picture.? Since he was sitting in Betty’s place, we had to dismiss him after a bit. It is going to? be precious to see where all this goes.? ? :)? ?
Well, I had my second? morning constitution with CJ. We sallied (at a slow pace) back to the? church building. Had? a short visit with Nathan and Jon. Nathan is busy making his office ‘attractive.’ I love to? go to the church offices for a bit of visitation. On the way back to the parsonage, CJ had to pay his respects? to Snicker’s grave. I went with him. Need to rake up things and make the grave a bit prettier.
While moving things to my? parsonage office I came across several of my old ‘Gems for Jesus Workman’s Diaries’.? These are special devotional booklets that I designed a great many years ago. We give our Disciple’s Heart students a diary for them to garner fresh revelations from the Lord everyday. Both Nathan and I have kept a diary over the years. Can’t wait to read back though these older one to review some of what the Lord had shared with me over time. Walking with the Lord is such a growing experience.
I really enjoy reading the responses that I get from folk reading my blog. Makes everything that much more personal. Was able to share with Shana a bit more about my ’slap the alligator on the head’ story. It really happened.
It’s really? not? hard to spot an alligator in Louisiana simply driving down the road, especially when traveling through a low-lying area. As for alligator eating, I don’t much care for it. One thing I can tell you — Don’t ever make the mistake of putting a bit of alligator fat in your mouth. You will spew it out in a hurry. Horrible taste. Don’t know why folk say it taste like chicken. If that’s the case, why not just eat chicken.
Another interesting thing happened this morning. It was our turn to prepare breakfast for our Wednesday morning minister’s prayer breakfast. Nathan set me up with the web cam. Really enjoyed visiting with the brothers. I left them with this message — When my hair grows back I’m gonna wear it in a ponytail. Gonna get me a motorcycle and come hold a revival in each of their churches. Mostly what I got was the ha ha ha. But my buddie John, pastor from the Nazarene church, told me to come on, that I could preach for him. Love it.
Well I just about finished? my pig’s feet last evening. Have one small one left. Think I’m through with pig’s feet for? a while. So don’t send any? more pig’s feet.? Thank you.
Had an encouraging call from my good friend, Larry Jeane? today. Just wanted to check up on me. Larry? is our city marshal and truly a great? friend. He? is originally from Vernon Parish. There is a whole flock of Jeanes around Leesville.? Bunch of them on Billy Goat Hill. (Yes, that is a real place. Well known? to Vernon folk.)
Larry is so funny. Jerry Clower has nothing on him.? No one can tell a story like Larry. He leaves me in stitches every time. This good friend believes that you need to laugh a lot. I agree with him. Larry calls himself a Philistinian Catholic. He married a lovely Catholic girl, but Larry does have? some Baptist in his background. (Not that he was ever been much of a church goer.)
Let’s see? Not much more to share. I’ll not talk with you til later tomorrow. Got my chemo to look forward to. You know, every one at Cabrini Hospital are simply the nicest people you will ever find. I love to joke and laugh with them. Course it don’t take much for me to laugh.
Ok — Love all of you.
Talk with you later.
